The AXON-RS485 surge protector is a professional device designed for comprehensive surge protection of electronic equipment operating in control and data transmission systems. It is dedicated to work in CCTV industrial television systems where an RS-485 bus or its variants with an operating voltage not exceeding 5V are used. The main task of this module is to protect sensitive electronic devices against the effects of atmospheric discharges and surges induced in transmission lines.
The device features two-stage protection that comprehensively secures the connected equipment. The first stage is based on protective elements that limit surges appearing between the transmission line and the PE protective conductor, which allows for effective discharge of the interference charge directly to the ground. The second stage consists of precise elements limiting the dangerous differential voltage that may occur between individual transmission lines. Thanks to this, the AXON-RS485 ensures safety in both common and differential modes.
One of the key advantages of the product is its solid metal housing, which acts as a shield, protecting internal circuits against electromagnetic interference. The use of detachable terminal connectors with a 3.5 mm pitch significantly facilitates the installation and potential maintenance of the system – there is no need to unscrew the wires when removing the module. Terminals A and B are used to connect the lines, while the third terminal can act as a signal ground. The product is characterised by very low self-capacitance, which means that the impact on the quality of the transmitted signal is marginal. It is an asymmetrical solution with clearly marked Line input and Equip output. A condition for reliable operation is connection to a functional earthing system.
