They allow for automatic and remote control of zooming (zoom) and moving away (wide) of the image, as well as automatic focusing (Auto-Focus). Control usually takes place via the camera interface (e.g., via the network in IP cameras) or via a recorder (e.g., using CoC control in analog systems)
