ACTii AC3631

1 Purpose and Functions

The product is a professionally remanufactured mechanical transmission (reduction gear) designed for the front-axle drive systems of all-electric vehicles (BEV) from Hyundai and Kia. The unit has undergone a comprehensive renewal process in a specialized service facility, which eliminates common factory defects that manifest as excessive noise and premature wear of rolling components.

The main task of the transmission is to transfer torque from the electric motor to the drive shafts while maintaining an optimal gear ratio. Thanks to the use of improved sub-assemblies, such as bearings from the renowned company SKF and a magnetic drain plug, the product offers higher operating quality and significantly longer service life compared to factory-installed units.

Main features:

  • ✔ Remanufactured transmission for Hyundai Kona Electric and Kia Niro EV 44500-18EA0
  • ✔ Complete replacement of 6 bearings (4 SKF ball bearings, 2 SKF tapered bearings)
  • ✔ Replacement of all 3 oil seals (2x OEM Hyundai axle seals, 1x Corteco input shaft seal)
  • ✔ Transmission housing thoroughly cleaned internally before assembly
  • ✔ Magnetic oil drain plug ACTii AC6007 included to catch metal shavings
  • ✔ Professional remanufacturing in a specialized electric motor and transmission service
  • ✔ Solution to factory bearing defect and premature failure (wheel of fortune noise, rumbling)
  • ✔ Shipping possible via courier on a pallet or in a securely protected package

Improvements over the original

During the remanufacturing process, high-quality SKF bearings are used, which eliminate the problem of the race rotating in the aluminum housing. Additionally, the included magnetic drain plug with a neodymium magnet (ACTii AC6007) actively catches metal shavings, preventing the formation of "grinding paste" in the oil, which was the main cause of failure in the original components.

3 Fault Analysis and Remanufacturing Scope

Typical symptoms of original transmission damage:

  • Cyclic noise: A characteristic sound resembling a "wheel of fortune" that increases with rotational speed.
  • Rumbling: Low-frequency vibrations and humming coming from the front axle area.
  • Early failure: Problems often occurring at low mileages (below 50,000 - 80,000 km).

Causes of factory failure:

The main cause is a design flaw in the seat of one of the ball bearings, which leads to it rotating in the aluminum housing. This process generates metal shavings which, circulating in the oil, act as a grinding paste, destroying the remaining bearings and seals.

Remanufacturing process:

  1. Disassembly of the unit and thorough verification of the technical condition of all internal components.
  2. Pressure and chemical washing of the housing interior to remove all shavings and old oil.
  3. Assembly of a set of 6 new premium-class SKF bearings.
  4. Installation of new seals (OEM and Corteco) ensuring full system tightness.
  5. Verification of clearances and testing of mechanism operation after assembly.

4 Operational Recommendations and Installation

Installation:

Transmission installation should be carried out in a specialized workshop dealing with electric vehicle maintenance. Particular attention should be paid to:

  • Correct seating of the axles in the new seals (avoid damaging the sealing lip).
  • Using the correct tightening torque for mounting bolts in accordance with the vehicle's service documentation.
  • Filling the transmission with fresh oil of the specification recommended by the manufacturer (Hyundai/Kia).

Maintenance:

  • Oil check: Regularly check the level and cleanliness of the transmission oil.
  • Magnetic plug: Clean the drain plug magnet of accumulated metallic deposits during every oil change.
  • Change frequency: It is recommended to perform the first oil change after approximately 5,000 - 10,000 km from installing the remanufactured transmission, and then according to service intervals for severe operating conditions.

5 Safety and Compliance

Important safety instructions

  • High voltage: Work on the drive system of an electric vehicle may only be performed by personnel holding high-voltage safety certifications (or equivalent).
  • Device weight: The transmission weighs approx. 40 kg. During installation and removal, appropriate workshop jacks must be used to prevent bodily injury or damage to the housing.
  • Fire hazard: Oil leaks onto brake system components can lead to loss of braking force or fire. After installation, strictly check all connections for leaks.
  • Compliance: The product has a CE declaration and meets the safety standards required in the European Union market.
