Alarms - PIR Motion Sensors

The Core Element of an Alarm System

PIR (Passive Infrared) motion sensors are the most popular and fundamental devices for intruder detection in alarm systems. Their operation is based on detecting infrared radiation (heat) emitted by moving objects, such as people.

How Do PIR Detectors Work?

A passive infrared sensor analyzes the ambient temperature in its field of view. When an object with a temperature higher than the background (e.g., a person) appears in the detection area and this object moves, the sensor detects the change and sends a signal to the alarm control panel.

Types of PIR Sensors

  • Indoor PIR sensors: Designed for mounting in rooms (on a wall or ceiling).
  • Outdoor PIR sensors: With a reinforced, weatherproof housing.
  • PIR "PET" sensors: Models with pet immunity. Thanks to special optics, they ignore the movement of small animals (e.g., up to 15kg or 25kg), which reduces false alarms.
  • Dual sensors (PIR + MW): Combine PIR technology with microwave detection for even higher effectiveness.
